Have yourself a big, juicy burger and fries….with veggies of course!
This recipe is a burger and fries kind of meal you can feel really good about. Grilled sweet potato fries and sneaking veggies into the patty makes it extra flavorful and full of nutrition. It’s easy to make your own burgers, add what you like and make them the right portion size for you. Give it a try!
I could eat these sweet potatoes over and over again (I actually make a ton for leftover lunches throughout the week). If sweet potatoes aren’t your thing, use regular! There are so many different spices to use on these fries to keep it interesting. I like cinnamon on my sweet potato fries and a bit of garlic and Parmesan on my regular white potatoes. YES, white potatoes are fine and are a good source of micronutrients including vitamin C, potassium, vitamin B6 and a little iron.
Deer Meat: You’ll save fat and calories if you opt for venison over beef. A 3-ounce serving of roasted venison contains 140 calories, less than 1 gram of fat and 26 grams of protein! If deer isn’t your thing, try turkey or opting for lean beef.
Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes are a rich source of fiber and contain iron, calcium, selenium, and are a good source of most of our B vitamins and vitamin C. One of the key nutritional benefits of sweet potato is that they’re high in an antioxidant known as beta-carotene. That’s where they got their claim to fame!
Spinach: Spinach is rich in many important nutrients, including vitamin K, vitamin A, folate and vitamin C, yet contains a very small amount of spinach calories in each serving.
Burgers & Sweet Potato Fries
- 1 lb ground meat (>90% lean)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- 1 Cup Spinach
- 1 Cup Onions
- 1/2 Cup Diced Bell Peppers
Sweet Potato Fries
- 2 Potatoes
- 1 tsp Olive Oil
- Sprinkle Salt, Pepper, Rosemary
- Spices of Choice (Cinnamon is good too)
- Preheat grill to 300 F
- Dice onions, peppers and chop spinach
- In large mixing bowl, place meat and add seasonings, onions, peppers, and spinach, mix thoroughly together with hands (I use gloves)
- Form into four patties
- Place on grill, flipping every 5-7 minutes until desired doneness
- Preheat grill to 300F
- Wash potatoes
- Cut slices of potatoes into thin wedges
- In large bowl lightly coat sweet potatoes in olive oil and seasonings
- Place potato wedges directly on grill 7-10 minutes each side
-If your burger patties aren’t sticking together, try adding egg whites or small amount of sauce of choice
